King Coconuts - April 7, 2018

This gentleman climbed the ladder to get us a fresh coconut. The King Coconut is a variety of coconut, native to Sri Lanka.

The name in Sinhalese is Thembili.

He had no problem climbing the ladder to get us a coconut.

It's not an easy task but he managed to get three of them for us.

Made me just a little nervous watching him climb the ladder.

He then cut the ends with a huge, sharp knife.

Here he is poking a hole at the top to get to the juice inside.

It was amazing to watch how quickly he cut the coconuts for us to drink.

Enjoy!

Drink up! The juice is warm and sweet.

Put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up! (We forgot the limes) 😉

This was our third time having King Coconut.

I have to say it was the best! Not sure if it's because we have been here for awhile or because it was fresh off the tree.

After you drink all the juice from the coconut you open it up and eat the coconut inside.

It is white and has the texture of jelly.

Still eating some of the coconut. The sister in the picture is Sister Rohini.

Sister Rohini's daughters and husband, Brother Sansoni.

Fun picture of the Sansoni family and their friends.

We had a fun time at their home today.

They also had these small pineapple plants at their home. Aren't they cute?

                           Rainy day in the city.

Had the chance to go to the market.

So many choices of things to buy.

Fresh fruits and vegetables.

Fish

Beef

More fish.

More meat.

Chicken

White eggs, Brown eggs, small eggs.
No green eggs and ham, but...
I will eat them here and there.
I will eat them anywhere!😄

Many people come to the market to get great deals.

Which banana would you like?

Later this evening we drove to Sister Erondi's sisters house. They prepared a delicious meal for us.

Here we are getting ready to eat.

Rice, macaroni, cucumbers, soy curry, and potato curry.

In the kitchen she has a wood burning stove. She heats the water then pours it through a filter to drink.

We enjoy every minute being with the people in Kandy. They are the most giving and want to feed you a full meal if they can. I am humbled by their generosity.
