This morning we took the 5:55 am train from Colombo to Kandy. We had to get back for our New Years Party. Upon arrival I was given this flower.
In Sri Lanka they are called 'Sal Mal' and is commonly known as 'Cannonball flowers. These beautiful flowers are full of fragrance. A 'Sal Tree's is a sacred tree for Buddhists. They offer these Cannonball flowers to Lord Buddha.

First game, Put the Eye on the Elephant. You are blindfolded and with the marker put the eye on the elephant.
Well, we thought it was like putting the tail on the donkey. Boy did they laugh when we put the eye on the tail! 😉
Next game was see who could hop the fastest on one foot.
Gunny sack races are popular all over the world.
Eating the bun contest.
This game the kids hands are tied behind their backs.
Once they are told to go they eat the bun as fast as they can. Winner is the one that eats the whole bun and runs to the judge.
Adults getting ready to thread a needle contest. One partner has the thread and the other partner has the needle. Interestingly it was 2 young men that won this event.
This game the kids find a coin in the flour. They get their faces wet and then using their mouths pick the coin up with their teeth.

The ladies get pretty competitive when it comes to shredded their coconut. This is a coconut stool. On the end there is a sharp round end that will shred the coconut.

Balloon dance. Partners dance with a balloon. Winners are the ones that didn't drop the balloon.
This event everyone could play. While the music is playing everyone dances. When it stops you freeze. If you move just a little you are out. Everyone was having a great time.
Last event was a tug-of-war. It was pretty even until the rope broke. Everyone tumbled down. Luckily no one was seriously hurt.
Time to eat!

We sure did have fun at our first New Years Party. We had about 120 people attend the party. Sixty-eight were investigators. It's going to be a great year!
