There are three missionary couples serving in Sri Lanka. Two of the couples are leaving this April and May. We decided we needed to get together before they fly back home. We headed to a place called Anuradhapra.
This statue was in front of the restaurant we stopped at.
Elephant at the hotel we stayed at.
Outside view of our hotel.
First meeting of the day.
The water was so refreshing!
Outside view of the swimming pool.
Outside walkway of the hotel.
After a cool dip in the pool we visited Isurumuni Raja Maha Viharaya. It is a Buddhist Temple.
We are standing in front of a cave that has thousands of bats inside. You could really hear them.
This was the sign outside the museum. Couldn't take pictures inside but it featured the famous 'lovers' sculpture, which dates from around the 5th century AD and is carved in the artist style of the Indian Gupta dynasty of the 4th and 5th centuries.
Entrance to the temple.
Standing in front of a bell-shaped stupa. A Stupak is a mound-like or hemispherical structure containing relics that is used as a place of meditation. A related architectural term is chaitya, which is a prayer hall or temple containing a stupa.
Going down the stairs.
View from on top of the elephant pond.
Arial view of a building.
One small statue of Buddha carving.
Back of the rock temple. It dates back around 307 - 267 BC.
View of the sunset while we were on top of the rock.
Dogs are every where in Sri Lanka. Some believe in reincarnation so they won't harm the animals.
Back to the hotel after touring and eating.
