Victoria Dam - Monday, July 2, 2018

We decided to visit the Victoria Dam in Kandy for part of our preparation day.

Road heading to the ancient bridge.

New bridge and hiking down to the ancient bridge.

Standing on the ancient bridge.

Monkeys along the way.

Termite hill. You can see how they are eating the tree.

The Victoria Reservoir.

The dam.

Another selfie.

Outside the visitor center. The gardens were well kept.

I don't think this buffalo knew the danger he was in.

Some of the beautiful scenery and flowers.

Victoria Dam (Sinhala: වික්ටෝරියා වේල්ල) is an arch dam located 130 mi (209 km) upstream of the Mahaweli River's mouth and 4 mi (6 km) from Teldeniya. Its main purposes are irrigation and hydroelectric power production. It is the tallest dam in Sri Lanka, and supports a 210 MWpower station, the largest hydroelectric power station in the country. Construction of the dam commenced in 1978, and was ceremonially completed by then-President Jayewardene in April 1985.

Trying corn on the cob for the first time. It is a lot like field corn, very chewy. Also had our first mangosteen. Yummy!

We took an air conditioned van today. Very nice!

Lunch at Kentucky Fried Chicken. Elder Jaysinghe's request.

After we ate we drove to our appointment to teach English.

What  GREAT DAY!
