Elder and Sister Briggs are serving as Self Reliance Missionaries in India. They were given permission to come to Sri Lanka and introduce the program here. They came a few days early so we decided to take them around Kandy.
First we were going to go to the Botanical Gardens but it was raining too hard.
Our drivers decided to take us to some of the different temples.
First stop was the Gadaladeniya Temple 14th Century.
This is considered one of the largest Buddhist rock temple in Sri Lanka.
Look in the distance and you can see a Buddhist statue.
Fixing up the place.
Beautiful country roads!
Rice paddies on our way to the next temple.
Next temple is called Lakathilaka Temple.
Man outside of the temple carving wood.
One of the doors going into the temple.
Another door.
This temple is considered as the most magnificent architectural edifice created during the Gampola era.
Very impressive!
More rice fields.
Last temple is Embekke Temple.
This temple was built by King Vikramabahu III of Gampola Era.
Known for the splendid wood carvings of ornate pillars and high pitched roof.
Interesting door knob.
Watching the rain come down.
Let it rain!
Wood carved pillars!
Lunch time. Briggs trying Sri Lanka food for the first time.
They had rice, curries and salad.
Stopped at the Kandy War Cemetery.
Watch out for falling coconuts!
Only 1 American is buried there and he was in the Canadian Airforce.
Last stop was the Big Buddha Statue. This is the view looking at Kandy.
Cleaning the grass by the church. It will be nice to have it cut down.
Wonderful and with the Briggs! We are so glad that they are staying with us.
