Kandy Train

We now know that we will be staying in Kandy to teach English at the University of Peradeniya. We still have some paper work to do before it is final but decided to come to Kandy to visit and look for an apartment. This is the train we rode to Kandy. We are on the last car. We are lucky enough to have air conditioning.

Once in Kandy we dropped off our luggage at the Guest House then had our driver, Shantha, take us sight seeing. This was our first stop by an elephant.

We then drove up to see a statue of Buhda. It sets up on a high hill. Very impressive.

Tunnel we drove through to get to the Buhda statue. Our driver said the British built the tunnel but no one in Kandy knows why. 😄

Next we drove to the Temple of the Tooth. This is where a relic of Buhdas tooth is kept. Lots of buildings and sculptures.

This area would be used to sit and visit. The poles are all hand carved.

A larger area where a Buddhist Priest would teach. The pillars are all hand carved.

A cottage at the Temple of the Tooth.

Sun starting to set outside the Temple of the Tooth.

Ken standing by the wall at the Temple of the Tooth.

Last we drove around Kandy Lake. As you can see it is going to be a very nice place to live.

It was a great day seeing the sights of where we get to stay for the next year.
