What a semester! Started in January and now they are getting ready for their exams. During this semester 2 1/2 months the support staff was on strike, we had a week with no school because of a lock down and some holidays in there. The students really had to work hard to get ready for their exams. Good luck to them! We'll be back in August!
After teaching we headed to an Alms Giving.
An Alms Giving is an occasion for the family and friends to get together after someone has died. This families grandmother passed away 3 months ago. They make this arch out of coconut leaves.
More decorations lined the entrance.
This young lady, Teena, was trying to get her chipmunk to come down. Apparently it sleeps in her room at night.
A huge pot of rice. The Alms Giving happens 1 month, 3 months and a year after someone dies.
The family cooks a lot of food to share with everyone who comes. Look at this bunch of bananas!
Ken will even eat these bananas.
After all the guests have eaten the put together food packets from the leftover food. They then give the packets to other people. We really like this tradition.
Next on our agenda we visited Ranathunga and his wife Leela. Ranathunga fell out of a mango tree and broke his arm. Instead of a cast it is bolted together with nuts and bolts. He said it doesn't hurt but it sure looks painful to me.
While at their home the kitty sure did like Brother Shantha.
Our last stop for the day was teaching English at this home. Family and neighbors came to learn some English.
We had so much fun with them.
Sunset as we head home for the night.
We had a GOOD DAY!
