Back To School!

Can you read our names? Luke is written pretty fancy in Sinhala!

We are finally back to school teaching. The strike is over after about 6 weeks. We go on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-12. Not too bad! Today I was able to teach about describing people. I was in a class with 16 students. We had a lot of fun describing one another.

Ken was in a class with 17 students. They talked about describing the campus.

Some of the monkey business that goes on outside the campus. Just make sure you don't eat in front of them because they will steal your food. Monkeys are really naughty! 🙈🙉🙊

HAND DELIVERY!

We were able to deliver a mission call to this young lady. This is Sister Sellapperumage Ruwanthi Anjalika Fernando. We call her Sister Anne. When she is in the Philippines they will call her Sister Fernando. Sri Lankans dont have short names.

She is with her sister, nephew, and mom. She is going to be a great missionary. Already she is teaching in Relief Society.

Anne is going to the Philippines Angeles Mission. She will leave July 20. We are lucky to get to work with her.
Anne and her mother come and clean our house once a week. She is earning some money to help pay for her mission and buy some of the clothes she needs. What a fun time for them as they prepare for this adventure!

Sister Transfers!

Early this morning we picked up Sister Silva from the airport. She is going to be Sister Jayarathne's new companion because Sister Basthiyan went home. Sister Silva has been in the Philippines for the past year. We didn't get to bed until 2:00 am.

Here's our new Sister companions with President and Sister Mortensen.

After a few busy days it was time for us to get on the train and head to Kandy. We were all so tired. Elder Jaysinghe and Elder Karunarathne sleeping.

We also were having sweet dreams.

Some of the beautiful scenery as we headed back to Kandy.

The clouds were so low tonight.

We sure love this beauty!

Zone Conference!

Colombo Zone Conference
Elder & Sister Luke, Sister Jayarathne, Sister Basthiyan,Sister & Elder Luke, Sister & President Mortensen,  Elder Karunarathne, Elder Jaysinghe, Elder Abeythunga and Elder Alegarathnum.

Two of my favorite Sister Missionaries.

Elder Jaysinghe had a birthday on Monday. So we had to eat cake. One tradition they have is to give a piece and have them take a bite out of it. He is giving the first piece to President Mortensen.

Sister Mortensen gets her piece next.

We had some good training today. We shared some of the lessons we learned when the Prophet came to India. Here are a few that were mentioned.
🥀Persist in small things.
🌼God uses the unlikely to accomplish the impossible.
🌷Be part of the solution.
🌺Faith is trust and confidence in Jesus Christ to obey His commandments.
🌻Faith produces miracles.

Ether 12:27
"And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."

Taking A Shower!

Such a simple thing but very important if you want warm water for your shower. Every morning you need to switch it on to heat the water. When you are finished you click it off.

Each shower has its own water heater. This is the shower in our master bedroom in Kandy.

This is our guest shower in Kandy.

This is a close up view of a water heater.

These are the two showers in the Colombo apartment. We are blessed  to have hot water. Many families take showers outside and use the water that has been heated by the sun.

Today we were reading Alma 32:21-23
21 And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.
22 And now, behold, I say unto you, and I would that ye should remember, that God is merciful unto all who believe on his name; therefore he desireth, in the first place, that ye should believe, yea, even on his word.
23 And now, he imparteth his word by angels unto men, yea, not only men but women also. Now this is not all; little children do have words given unto them many times, which confound the wise and the learned.

🚿Enjoy your day and hot showers!🚿
